00:13:49 And by the early 1980s, he had sounded the order.
00:13:56 He formed the.
00:13:56 Order to be the tip of the spear, the vanguard of violent action in furtherance of white supremacy.

00:14:10 So basically to you know.
00:14:13 We're going to go over in in more detail here.
00:14:16 We're going to go in quite a lot of detail actually.
00:14:21 Long story short, there was a guy who was.
00:14:23 His name was Bob Matthews.
00:14:26 He was a a minor, you know, blue collar worker.
00:14:31 Noticed a lot of the demographic changes that were taking place.
00:14:35 Noticed a lot of the problems with.
00:14:40 Affirmative action affecting his friends and family.
00:14:45 And wanted to do something about it.
00:14:48 And so he went.
00:14:49 He he looked at the he lived in Phoenix, AZ.
00:14:54 After living on the East Coast for a while, I think it was.
00:14:57 I think it was like Virginia area or something.
00:14:58 Like that is where he was originally from.
00:15:01 But looked at the the area in Phoenix and said this is getting to diverse for me.
00:15:10 Decided to check out northern Idaho and Washington state up near the Canadian border.
00:15:20 Went up and I believe worked for a mining company.
00:15:25 I think it was a mining company.
00:15:27 Saved up enough money to buy some land.
00:15:30 Through a trailer.
00:15:33 On his land.
00:15:37 Started eventually his his white supremacist groups.
00:15:42 As they say.
00:15:45 But let's move on here.
00:15:51 What set him apart from a lot of these other groups, like we talked about the CSA?
00:15:57 Where the CSA was doing the like the training camps.
00:16:03 Which was totally illegal, you know, they had, they had training camps, they had legal weapons.
00:16:09 He was actually tied to the CSA.
00:16:13 By financially because.
00:16:17 The difference between.
00:16:19 The order.
00:16:20 Bob, Bob Matthews Group and the CSA was.
00:16:26 He literally started robbing banks.
00:16:30 He talked to his friends after they got together and said, you know, we.
00:16:38 We need to actually.
00:16:41 Start doing this.
00:16:42 We've got to be able to fund the operation.
00:16:46 So he robbed a bank.
00:16:49 Came back with $20,000.
00:16:52 And told everyone like, look, look how easy it was. I got $20,000.
00:16:59 And then convince the other guys in the group that, you know, let's let's go rob a **** store.
00:17:06 Because if we're robbing a **** store, we're not going to.
00:17:08 Feel bad about, you know.
00:17:10 Getting anyones hard earned money or anything like that.
00:17:14 So they robbed a **** store and I think they walked away with only $36.
00:17:20 But that was that was fine with him.
00:17:23 Because it got them to cross that line.
00:17:27 It got them to, you know, mentally and physically, I guess, crossed that line into criminality.
00:17:34 So it didn't matter so much.
00:17:35 They only.
00:17:36 Got $36.
00:17:37 But then they graduated to robbing armored cars.
00:17:43 And other banks.
00:17:48 And and and and at one point.
00:17:49 I don't know if it's still the case.
00:17:52 They actually held the record for the biggest armored car robbery.
00:17:58 In America.
00:18:01 Which we'll get into shortly.
00:18:05 Eventually, they decided, he started spreading money.
00:18:10 To well, groups like the CSA, but other groups that he thought were militant and that would help.
00:18:18 With his plans to create a basically a white ethno state.
00:18:24 In the Pacific Northwest, so he wanted to make a white ethno state that.
00:18:29 Would include.
00:18:31 Idaho parts of Washington and even parts of Canada.
00:18:38 And he they got enough money.
00:18:42 Together that.
00:18:45 That he thought it was possible to do that actually take on the federal government.
00:18:50 And to have this ethno state.
00:18:54 So he was passing this money on to other groups that he thought would help out when the eventual war would take place between the United States and his group.
00:19:03 Which again it's.
00:19:05 Which was biting off a lot more than he could chew because he wasn't.
00:19:09 We just saw it's like a group of at the time I I don't think it ever went above like 30 people.
00:19:18 And the corps members were like it.
00:19:19 Was like 8 people or something like that.
00:19:22 Another mission that they decide to execute.
00:19:27 Was to assassinate Alan Berg.
00:19:32 Alan Berg was a a Communist Jew radio host out of, I think LA.
00:19:41 That was nationally syndicated.
00:19:44 Who would often talk **** about white people and and do entire shows promoting women race mix, you know, white women race mixing like the the theme of the show would be.

00:20:04 So he was kind of like a shock jock, but just kind of a degenerate and he would get into arguments with.
00:20:11 A lot of the the white nationalists that would call up.
00:20:15 And they decided, well, let's let's just, let's get him.
00:20:21 Because a lot of what they did.
00:20:23 The order if you've read.
00:20:28 The Turner Diaries, it's they were modeling themselves.
00:20:33 The group you know called the order in the Turner Diaries.
00:20:38 Almost exactly.
00:20:39 In fact, like it's kind of, it's kind of amazing how much they mirrored a lot of the fiction that was.
00:20:45 In that book.
00:20:49 So they they did it.
00:20:52 They went out.
00:20:53 Gunned him down in front of his house with a machine gun.
00:20:58 And got away.
00:21:03 So this was the area that was supposed to be the.
00:21:08 The white ethno state.
00:21:15 And here's the so this is the healing hate documentary just going over the.
00:21:22 The Big Brinks truck heist.
00:21:28 And they also talk about how they were going to go after the co-founder of the SPLC.
00:21:37 I always forget his first name, but Deese, like it's not like Morton Dees, but it's something like that.
00:21:44 Something Dees, whatever, Deez Nuts.
00:21:52 1984 The order was the target and the FBI was in hot pursuit. The Bureau had an informant inside the order. His name was Tom Martinez.
00:22:05 He wasn't asking me.
00:22:06 He was telling me.
00:22:07 Now you're going to be part of a cell to kidnap.
00:22:11 And murder.
00:22:12 These, and he said we're going to torture him.
00:22:18 Morris Dees OK.
00:22:21 So anyway, this is the FBI informant to the head.

00:22:34 You know, and and their white supremacy.

00:23:11 And one of the guys that they had.
00:23:14 Spending the fake money was tell Martinez, who instantly flipped and became an FBI informant.
00:23:25 And so he told the FBI.
00:23:31 You know, basically everything, in fact, a lot of stuff, they didn't know the FBI didn't weren't, they weren't.
00:23:36 Aware of the order.
00:23:38 They were just aware that he was spending.
00:23:42 You know counterfeit money.
00:23:45 And he spilled the beans to avoid jail time.
00:23:49 That's one of the reasons why.
00:23:53 One of the many reasons but one of the main reasons why.
00:23:57 Groups like this.
00:23:59 Are in terms of just trying to form them out of nothing.
00:24:04 Is pretty much a bad idea.
00:24:07 There is a reason why like well, think about successful organized crime.
00:24:14 There's usually blood relation.
00:24:18 Blood is thicker than water.
00:24:22 There is a reason why they're usually related.
00:24:27 They're not just a bunch of randos.
00:24:32 And while the order did.
00:24:34 Do some rituals.
00:24:37 When they would induct people into the into the order.

00:24:50 Like you see in organized crime, you know, in in order to create loyalty.

00:25:07 And then they keep the murder weapon.
00:25:14 Because they have to have something on you, right?
00:25:21 What they would do is they would just do like these.
00:25:26 Little ritual things that we'll get into here in a minute, but it wasn't anything.

00:25:32 And there's no blood relation, so you're kind of you're basically just dealing with random guys with the last name Martinez.

00:25:47 So what happened was because he.
00:25:51 You know, he was going to get.
00:25:53 Charged with the counterfeiting, he routed out Bob Matthews.
00:26:00 And told the FBI where he was going to be.
00:26:03 He was at this hotel.
00:26:05 And the FBI went to go arrest him for the.
00:26:11 The armored car.
00:26:17 But also for a murder that he he told them about because they suspected one of the the members was a was a fed and they had killed one of the other members earlier on.
00:26:31 Yeah, like Martina has basically just spilled all the beans, like all the beans you could.
00:26:38 But when the feds went and raided that hotel?
00:26:43 They they weren't as sneaky as they.
00:26:44 Should have been.
00:26:46 And Bob Matthews snuck out, got away, actually.
00:26:52 And went to one of their properties in Washington called Whidbey Island.
00:27:02 So it's like their safe house.
00:27:05 But they didn't last very long.
00:27:07 He was only there a couple of days before the feds caught up.
00:27:13 On December 7th, the FBI tracked Matthews to a remote location in Washington state, more than 75 heavily armed agents took up positions around a cabin on Whidbey Island.
00:27:24 And we're hoping to resolve the matter as quickly and as safely as we can.
00:27:31 So I'm I'm sure I don't have.
00:27:33 To tell you how.
00:27:34 This one ends, so they the feds show up.
00:27:38 They surround the island.
00:27:40 I mean, the island's kind of.
00:27:41 A bad place.
00:27:42 For unless you've got, like a submarine, it's kind of a bad place for a a safe.
00:27:48 Because you know, you just get it.
00:27:50 It's easy to surround and you know, you can't really go anywhere.
00:27:54 So they surround it.
00:27:59 For 32 hours, the FBI tried to convince Matthews to surrender, but Matthews refused to come out.
00:28:11 So that's the house he was in.
00:28:13 Now they're pretty light on details, which is kind of funny because the reason why they are.
00:28:19 He was he was on a tear.
00:28:22 He really.
00:28:23 Was not going to go.
00:28:26 Once again, he's emulating the book.
00:28:29 He was emulating the book, and in the book.
00:28:32 The protagonist goes down in a hail of bullets.
00:28:35 At least that's my understanding I haven't read.
00:28:38 I still haven't read the Turd Diaries, but that's my understanding.

00:28:48 Has a lot of automatic weapons in this cabin.
00:28:52 And he actually fights off the SWAT team that shoots tear gas into the cabin and tries to take him out.

00:29:08 Sniffled his way through the tear gas because he he shot a shot at the SWAT team, enough to where they actually they retreated.

00:29:27 What happens when you, when you shoot up the feds and they have to retreat?

00:29:44 That night, the FBI worried that Matthews would try to escape in the dark.
00:29:48 They fired illumination flares into the air.
00:29:51 One of them fell on the cabin.
00:29:54 The house eventually was caught up in a blaze.
00:30:04 Oh no, I accidentally shot a flare and let your cabin on fire where it was totaled by accident.

00:30:17 So the FBI lit the house on fire that he was in.
00:30:21 Because that's what the feds do.
00:30:25 Unfortunately, a fire started.

00:30:40 He succumbed to the the heat smoke.
